Health Threat
Rodents are capable of posing an immediate health threat and exposing the population to potentially deadly diseases. While devastation attributed to mice is due primarily to contaminating its environment with droppings and eating human food sources, mice also carry and spread such diseases as salmonellosis (bacterial food poisoning), tularemia, rickettsialpoz, the particularly lethal and airborne hanta virus and leptospirosis, among others. ![]()
Baits, in the form of bars, pellets and bait packs, can be very effective to control rodent infestations. If you choose rat baits, pellets, bars or bait packs, put them where animals, other than rodents, will not come into contact with them. If you place them in bait stations, the stations must be strong enough to keep out the non-target animals. Glue traps and snap traps provide effective rodent control without endangering pets, livestock and wildlife.
Snap traps and glue traps are low cost and effective. They provide effective rodent control without endangering pets, livestock and wildlife. Cheese is the traditional bait for snap traps but a dab of peanut butter will cling to the trap better, preventing bait thievery. Glue traps are small trays of very sticky glue that are placed along the baseboards and walls where rodents travel. ![]() |
